The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation, Inc. remains committed to responding to the human and material needs of our community. The Foundation seeks to assist in improving the quality of life for our neighbors through its dedicated grant programs and community outreach initiatives.
A Catalyst for Community Growth
Established in 1997, the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation is dedicated to annually distributing funds to local charitable organizations supporting religious, health, public safety, arts, and educational programs. As a deeply rooted Connecticut community bank with a 150-year legacy of service, Thomaston Savings Bank remains committed to giving back to the community it serves.
Each year, the Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation reaffirms its financial commitment to the community through its substantial $9.8 million charitable foundation. Since its inception, the Foundation has proudly awarded over $8.2 million in grant funding. These funds are specifically allocated to benefit the citizens within our assessment area. The Bank's establishment of this foundation ensures that local charitable needs will continue to be met well into the future.
Foundation Phases: Our Grant Cycle
The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation will host three phases of its grant cycle each year. Each phase is focused on a specific county and the towns within that county where the Bank has a physical presence.
April 1st – 30th, 2024 | Awards disbursed in late June
Grant applications will be considered to assist local nonprofit and government agencies who are addressing community needs in the following towns:
- Bristol
- Farmington/Unionville
- New Britain
Applications must be completed in full and submitted by April 30 at 11:59 p.m. in order to be considered for a grant.
July 1st – July 31st, 2024 | Awards disbursed in late September
Grant applications will be considered to assist local nonprofit and government agencies who are addressing community needs in the following towns:
- Bethlehem
- Harwinton
- Plymouth/Terryville
- Thomaston
- Torrington
- Watertown/Oakville
Applications must be completed in full and submitted by July 31st at 11:59 p.m. in order to be considered for a grant.
October 1st – 31st, 2024 | Awards disbursed in late December
Grant applications will be considered to assist local nonprofit and government agencies who are addressing community needs in the following towns:
- Middlebury
- Waterbury
- Wolcott
Applications must be completed in full and submitted by October 31st at 11:59 p.m. to be considered for a grant.

Eligibility Requirements
Organization Criteria
To be eligible for a Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation Grant, your organization must meet the following criteria:
- A registered 501(c) 3 organization or government agency that demonstrates significant local impact.
- An organization whose mission or services align with Thomaston Savings Bank’s in the following priority focus areas:
- Arts & Culture
- Community Development
- Education & Youth Services
- Health & Human Services
- Public Safety
- Applications from religious organizations will be considered for grant purposes that support programming that assists in meeting the needs of the community and/or falls under the scope of the above priority focus areas.
The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation generally does not invest in the following causes:
- Individuals including those seeking scholarships, fellowships or sponsorships for a personal cause
- Endowment campaigns
- Organizations designed primarily for funding lobbying, political action committees or political candidates
- Activities for religious purposes
- Other Foundations
- Organizations which are discriminatory in their practices
Geographic Preference
The Foundation looks to make awards to agencies that assist residents in the communities that Thomaston Savings Bank serves. Grant awards must be directed to support the residents of the following towns: Bethlehem, Bristol, Farmington/Unionville, Harwinton, Middlebury, New Britain, Plymouth/Terryville, Thomaston, Torrington, Waterbury, Watertown/Oakville, Wolcott
